Gotta big up my man Rick Ross tonight on the release of his new album Port of Miami 2. Port of Miami was his debut album and it dropped back in 2006. Ross aka The Boss is now 10 albums deep in the game. That is pretty impressive. 10 albums?! Not many rappers can say that they’ve released 10 albums.

I came home tonight from a long day at work and asked my wife what she thought about the new Rick Ross album. I said it jokingly knowing that she’s not up on Rozay or the new album but I am so I decided to bring it up while lounging on the couch. I was ashamed when she asked me who Rick Ross was. How do you not know Rick Ross?! I immediately had to resort to rapping the chorus of my favorite Ross song, “Hustlin’.” Luckily my wife is awesome and is up on a lot of the rap music I like so just rapping the chorus made the song come to life for her. She now knew exactly who Rick Ross was so I didn’t have to elaborate any further. Phew! Dodged a bullet! But how much do you know about Rick Ross? Since this song dropped it was been my motto and one of my main motivations when putting in hours at work. I can just rap that chorus over and over again and it gets me fired up each time. Ask any of my friends and they will tell you the same. Ross had some serious confidence for a newcomer on the scene and had a good ear for beats with a timely flow. For a debut album, I liked the swagger from the rapper who was originally signed by Suave House Records. Sure Ross caught some flack for the revelation that he was once a Parole Officer but I can look past that. Many of the rappers I listened to as a kid were “studio gangsters” but if I liked their music I was cool with it. Over the years, Ross has become one of those artists you can just count on for 1 or 2 bangers per album. Were there filler tracks on each of his albums along with unnecessary guest features? Absolutely, but the bangers on each album more than made up for it.
