Shout out to Marvel and Mass Appeal working together to release the first major rap comic book, Legend Has It. If you’re a fan of rap or hip hop and also happen to be a comic book fan, this is a very big deal. The comic dropped yesterday (10/10/25) at New York Comic Con with a live panel featuring Nas, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah and many other legends. This comic also ties in with the new album from Mobb Deep (!!!!) and it follows a crazy run of releases from Mass Appeal this year from Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface, Mobb Deep, and then we got a Big L and then a Nas and DJ Premier album?? AND THEN IT IS ALL TIED INTO THIS COMIC BOOK IN ALL KINDS OF WAYS?!??!??!? No way…. This is epic.
I bought 2 issues last night off of Mass Appeal’s website (click here) and suggest you pick up one as well. For me, I want one to read with my son and then one for my collection. I want him to see rappers and rap producers who they are… LEGENDS. And if he sees these new comic cook heroes, he is going to be wondering if there’s a show… so Mass Appeal… Marvel… IS THERE A SHOWWWW?!??!??! I feel like there will be one. If there’s smoke there’s fire right? Speaking of smoke, did you miss the Slick Rick album he dropped this year on Mass Appeal? This did make it into a 21 minute film… yup… go peep. And listen to his album, Victory.
That Raekwon album that dropped this year has been slept on. Rae’s voice hasn’t changed and the flow hasn’t changed and the hunger hasn’t changed. Chef Raekwon is cookin out here in 2025 looking like a crazy villain in this music video for “Bear Hill” which you gotta peep. His latest album is called, The Emperor’s New Clothes and it deserves a spin in the Discman. Let the whole album run and tell me it isn’t a solid project front to back…. I’ll wait…
Then they had the Ghostface Killah album, Supreme Clientele 2. The album rollout on that one was superb and the lead single was a great first product to push out with the old school feel on the beat and Ghost sounding like it’s the Mid90s and he out to take your lunch. I really like the lyric video they put out for “Rap Kingpin” which has me locked into the visuals the entire track. This is hard to do but all of the pieces fit… Mass Appeal has gone all out on these releases and all I can do is tip my head to their work.
Wait… and then we just get a new Mobb Deep album years after Prodigy has passed? And The Alchemist and Havoc are the ones stitching together all of the old lyrics, beats, vibes, and story? I heard that first track they released and felt like I hopped out of the Delorean back to the early 2000’s with this… This visualizer for “Against the World” was something… is something. And so is that new album that just dropped from Mobb Deep, Infinite.
Rap and comics have always been connected with a dotted line. From MF Doom taking on the Dr. Doom type character to Ghostface Killah being Tony Starks all the way to Deltron, Czarface, Kool Keith, and more we’ve seen rappers be super heroes. Or put on the masks so that they can be like super heroes. My son knows the Beastie Boys but he also known MF Doom because he sees Dr. Doom and I have to correct him and go, no… that is MF Doom… and he goes who is MF Doom? And I go….
As fans, we like larger than life stories whether it be in movies, music, comic books, sports, etc. So when my son learns about MF Doom from the lens of a super villain it is really cool. It’s an easy gateway drug for me to introduce him to Ghostface Killah via his track “Angels” with MF Doom. We had dope raps from the NYC gods matched up with old comic book cartoons and the result was lovely. It gave you great art that you could feel.
Kool Keith was always a comic book like super hero as he always had different alter-egos he rapped under so it was only fitting that he dropped a comic book this year that deserves some shine as well since we’re talking comics and hip-hop. He really got half shark half alligator man in the mix which is amazing. If you want to go pick up a copy of The Krossover Into The Flower Kosmic, click here.
Czarface has really run with the comics and rap parallel and they’ve done it so on point they have me in awe at times. Their comics? The lunch box? The sports cards? The action figures? I could go on and on. Czarface does include Inspectah Deck but it also includes underground hip hop legends, 7L and Esoteric… The Czarface catalog is long and the way they portray themselves as super heroes and super villians is fantastic. Of course they had to work with MF Doom too right???
This Marvel and Mass Appeal comic book, Legend Has It has me all up in my feelings. I’m tapped in for whatever stories they want to tell in my walkman but also in my hands with those comics, and in my eyes with any visuals they want to throw out… but now I’m thinking… If Mass Appeal is running comics now with Marvel… and they keep working with these 90s rap legends… is there any way they could get their hands on those lost Ghostface and MF Doom tracks and put out the long talked about, long anticipated album? HOW HARD WOULD THAT BE? Ghostface and DOOM dropping in 2026 on Mass Appeal and Marvel. It would be quite fitting… Is this the masterplan???? I don’t know… I’m reading page to page though… Go buy the new comic! Go support dope hip hop!
