Okay… Rap is having a moment. Hip Hop might not be on the Top 40 of the Billboard for the first time in decades but cmon… who gives a shit… Hip hop doesn’t need that mass appeal. We have some dope artists selling amazing physicals to keep fans engaged with a movement. The Alchemist saw an opportunity and had a crazier jet pack than everybody. Those crazy limited edition runs are legendary. And you know what else is legendary, this track “A Thousand Mountains” from Alfredo 2. Freddie Gibbs and ALC on this one??? crazy.
The Alchemist is going to be up for grammys and I couldn’t be happier about where rap’s at right now. Or maybe I should say where rap is going. Spotify has kind of lost its luster a bit and fans want to support the artists they love so physicals are beginning to be purchased. Remember, you can get a CD player on Amazon for like $30 that does the trick. Spend a little time at a record store and you can get a few CD’s for $20 - $30 if you dig good enough. Fans want something to do… something to see… something to hold. The Alchemist has been sharpening his blades over on this side with collaborators like Freddie Gibbs, Larry June, 2 Chainz, Hit-Boy, Erykah Badu, and so many more it’s beginning to get too hard to count. Oh wait… what album will that “Super Nintendo” track be on? Armand Hammer? Anyway… “Ricky” is the song of the year… Or at least it better be up for a Grammy… It’s that impactful.
I love that the Big L and Jay-Z freestyles from Stretch & Bobbito are now “officially” available. I’m including this here… It’s a new drop to many. RIP Big L… You were a great one… you are a great one.
The Big L and Nas track tho?? Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
The new Mobb Deep sounds like it’s early 2000’s again… RIP Prodigy. This track stays on my mind.
Jay Electronica out here taking it back to the good ole days and making me want to listen to hear him rapping over the Eternal Sunshine OST once again. This track right here… this is a super old track right? Why do I feel like I know this track and I just heard it for the first time… ahhh… that’s what Jay Electronica does… legit.
Evidence has dropped the best album of his career. Unlearning, Vol 2 is everything you wanted it and needed it to be. The production is crazy… Ev just stays in a great pocket. Several tracks that just don’t leave rotation.
You do know that Fashawn still murders shit right? Have you heard “Guillotine” yet? Have you seen “Guillotine” yet? What are you even doing right now… go watch it.
The Clipse… No Malice… Push… “The Birds Don’t Sing” with John Legend is absolutely up there for song of the year. It’s one of the most beautiful hip hop tracks ever made.
The new Jay Worthy has a smash… “Worthy Vs. Getty” is a genre defining track. This is some old school west coast cowboy type shit that my ear can’t get enough of. Jay Worthy stays pretty slept on in my opinion… I don’t see how he stays slept on with heaters like this in the clip. Balt Getty on the beat… Balt… you killed it. Amazing track.
Back to Al… This is “Life is Beautiful” track should be played at every Sephora during the holidays… that’s how fresh it is. Cancel the Christmas music this year… Let some of these cool beats just ride.
Joey has a really great year… to hear this let’s me know he is in top tier form. Go look into Joey with all that he’s dropped this year and come back to the catalog…
JID and Offset…
Earl just dropped his best album I think? What do you think?
This Vince verse caught my ear… the track is dope. This is under the radar I feel and it shouldn’t be… go listen.
New Mac Miller?
You do realize that Boldy and Nicholas Craven don’t miss right? Cut after cut is dope.
I think Lord Sko got it.
Seafood Sam is hella slept on…
Rap is in a good spot gang… you just have to keep looking around and surround yourself with others who are into music as well and you won’t lose.
Here is what I have been bumping….
