Is there a more blunt song title than “Don’t Give Me No Bammer Weed?” Down in Los Angeles in ‘92 you had Dr. Dre dropping The Chronic in late ‘92 while a few months earlier, RBL Posse dropped their debut album, A Lesson To Be Learned through In-A-Minute Records. But prior to the album, an earlier version of “Don’t Give Me No Bammer Weed” was already circling in the 90s Bay Area streets through their independent hustle pushing homemade cassette tapes hand-in-hand and out the trunk. For their debut album, they rerecorded the track and added some new vocals and early on, it was stamped as a 90s Bay Area classic. The first time you hear that song you just know how special it is… Trust me… Go play this for a friend that has never heard it and I guarantee they repeat that chorus back to you… The beat knocks… The track is catchy… The raps are dope… For all of the hot tracks released back in the early 90s, RBL Posse’s “Don’t Give Me No Bammer Weed” is a straight up Cali Rap Classic.

This is up there with one of my favorite 90’s rap album covers of all time. Straight crew shot posted up lookin hard reppin their neighborhood right in Hunters Point in San Francisco. The vibe of the cover was inspired by NWA and the Geto Boys so no wonder it resonated with so many 90s Rap fans. Here the kids were rockin RBL Posse jackets trying to break through in 90’s Hip Hop. I love 90’s West Coast Rap Classics and this to me is a top 5 smash out of Cali back in those old school days. But I play it now and I still don’t hit skip ever… I let that whole 6 minutes play and I get super hype… Black C from RBL handled all of the beats on the album while him and Mr. Cee handled the raps. I play that A Lesson to be Learned album and I feel it doesn’t get the props it deserves. Ask any casual 90’s west coast rap fan and ask them if they bump RBL Posse… 8 out of 10 probably don’t bump RBL do they?
