Mike Bibby and The Collection

May 14, 2025 Alex Marquardt

This month I catch a social media post about an event at Gila River Casino. The post is for “The Collection by Gila River”. The post describes the event as a “sneaker lover’s dream”, so they had my attention.  The Collection is described as an event to discover the history and artistry behind each pair from Mike Bibby’s personal collection. The highlights of the event include iconic Jordan Brand collaborations from Bibby’s collection that span decades with rare, limited edition releases and exclusive colorways straight from the vault. So of course I had to check it out.

The Future for Nike Is Bright - Elliott Hill in as New CEO

November 5, 2024 Alex Marquardt

Some of us have been in the sneaker space for a long time. I am grateful for the days of sitting outside of shopping malls with like-minded sneakerheads as we waited for the sun to come up and Foot Locker to open. Here in Arizona, it was always Metrocenter.  If I couldn’t snag the new Jordans at Foot Locker, I would take the escalator up to Champs. But some mornings, your size sold out before you got to any of the registers. And if they did, you had to drive home to crack open the Yellow Pages (some of you might have to google that one) and call other stores to find out what sizes they had in stock. If Chris-Town Mall had the size, I jumped in the ’84 Honda CRX and drove across the valley to pick em up.

WHAT KICKS YOU ROCKIN THO?

July 4, 2023 Tim C.

I always like showing up to parties with my homies just to see what gear people are rockin. There are some friends where I get hyped pre-party wondering what pair a certain homie will be wearing. Some show up with a crispy white tee while others flex with their kicks. I’m a bit inbetween and you can tell how I’m doing financially by what I’m rockin to the BYOB. New kicks on? Flex szn… The same kicks from ‘17? Struggle szn. But I’m here to see my homies up and be there for them when they’re down. Here’s an article for those that are creepin on ah come up.

AIR: COURTING A LEGEND

April 4, 2023 Tim C.

How do you decide what brand you spend money on? My brand loyalty runs deep and I’m opening the pockets for my man Michael Jordan. This is a story about the Jordan posters on my childhood walls, the frequent trips to Blockbuster to pick up those Jordan VHS rentals, and the songs I love that reference the GOAT. With Air dropping in movie theatres this week, I’m shining up all my banger J’s to stunt on all of y’all!

AND THE NIKES ON MY FEET KEEP MY CIPHER COMPLETE

February 18, 2023 Tim C.

Back in those days, kicks dropped during the week. Often on a school day. It was hard to be the first to flex a new pair of shoes. Two friends of mine cracked the code. In middle school, I had a friend whose dad worked at Foot Locker.  I’ll never forget sitting in first period Science class and I see Frankie walk in with a pair of Jordan 6 Carmines on his feet. I had never even seen the colorway. The Infrared had come out In February of 1991. I knew the silhouette, but I had missed this colorway completely. Here he was rockin’ em on November 11th, 8:15am. The morning they released…. His dad would put the transaction through the register at 10:00 am when the store opened. But Frankie was flexing em THAT morning.

JORDAN AND GRIFFEY

‘88 NBA All Star Dunk Contest

‘88 NBA All Star Dunk Contest

There were 2 things I remember really wanting as a kid. One was a pair of shoes and the other was a baseball card. As a kid you don’t need much but in my elementary school I couldn’t get these 2 items off my mind. The Nike Jordan 3’s and the ‘89 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card were 2 things that I couldn’t go without. Fast forwarding to today and they are still as fresh as when they first dropped.

Going back to the 80’s with this one walking you through what was popular in sports at the time along with a story of my first rap performance in front of my father that I will never forget. RIP to the legend known as Eazy E. You were one of my first idols and I didn’t care whether my parents approved or not!
