Yams and Odessa Kane "Skyscrapers"

Here are the visuals from “Skyscrapers” off of the Yams and Odessa Kane album, W.O.R.D. With this video finally coming to life, I’d love to tell you about the adventure. To do that, we have to go back to May/June of 2024. That was the timeframe where I secured a verse from Pep Love. And I’m not saying “Pep Love from Hieroglyphics” because Pep has those verses that make you sit in your place and enjoy the adventure. The first time I heard “You Never Knew”, that Pep Love verse made me sit firmly in my mind and be amazed at what I was hearing.

We sent Pep Love what we had with the track already and because we were in no rush, we let it sit with him. Then when it made its way back to us with the verse on it, we knew we had a good track. It’s 2 totally different styles from 2 totally different rappers. The beat is dope. The effects put onto the start of the track are lovely. The Pep verse sounds like he is rapping from outer space and then you come down to the San Diego streets, Odessa is on a rooftop of a legendary San Diego restaurant called Pokez and he basically throws a Molotov cocktail onto the streets of the rap industry letting you know he’s been born ready for this. The track is truly some 90s underground hip hop at its finest. Give the track a spin…

Just let that track play… futuristic boom bap right here. I can’t help get those 90s Underground Rap vibes. And while Pep Love was touring the world when Hiero was gaining mass appeal, Odessa Kane was already in those San Diego hip hop streets with Orko and the Mastas of the Universe who were always opening for the notable Bay and LA hip hop groups coming down trying to build that San Diego fanbase. Back then, you would crews and artists like Living Legends, Hieroglyphics, Aceyalone, Abstract Tribe Unique, People Under the Stairs, Blackalicious, Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, and more coming into town. And either opening for these acts or in the streets in cyphers you would find the Mastas of the Universe and a young Orko, Matrix, and crew ready to eat emcees. San Diego underground hip hop never got the shine they deserved…

Fast forward to Summer 2025 and the track “Skyscrapers” was dropped with the Yams and Odessa Kane album, W.O.R.D. This album came out on 8/8/25 and we had no clue which song Spotify would take off of the album and place on their Release Radar playlists which are created uniquely for each Spotify account. With the “Spotify Listeners” these artists had, we have the opportunity for Spotify to place one of the Yams and Odessa songs on their Release Radar playlists. We’re in zero control of this. It is all algorithm based so their tech is able to take a sound profile of a listener, and match them up with tracks they feel (with data), that would resonate with the listener… Spotify picked “Skyscrapers” to push from our album. As we stand, “Skyscrapers” is the track from the album which has the most streams. And that is how we got here…. We needed to further promote the track with some visuals…. so let’s get to that so you can try to catch the vibe. Here is “Skyscrapers” for your Walkman.
