I just saw that there is a short docuseries on Allen Iverson which gets me hype. I see Allen Iverson and I see greatness. I go back to those Sixers teams which had such minimal ammunition for The Answer and he was all up in the paint getting the hardest bumps imaginable while getting a bucket and a foul. AI took no shorts in the game ever.
While skating and hip hop always blended into each other, Allen Iverson brought rap to the game of hoops oh so well. When he would be walking into the area? The Discman with the headphones? Cmon… That was legit… Super dressed down with long chains and jump suits. To me, he was like a more gangster version of Deion Sanders. I loved Deion too but Deion could be a little much. Iverson was hard AF. No pause there either… yall are lame… Iverson was hard AF.
Yes, I absolutely bought those kicks right when they came out… Those were one of the few pairs of shoes where the comfort matched the anticipation. I wore those on the court and got my 2-4 points in style… The shorts were hella long and baggy… But if you had The Answers on your feet, you didn’t feel like you’d ever lose… it was a mentality.
Iverson and an aging Mutumbo would have been my favorite NBA Jams duo of all time. Hands down… Iverson would go to the rack and old man Mutombo would grab a ton of boards for easy put backs. And nobody challenged Mutombo. That wagging finger is the best sports celebration of all time. Yall can have the griddy… i’m going Mutombo finger all dayyyyyyyyyy
I remember when the Sixers came to town… We had to go… We got the cheapest tickets and each quarter we made our way down further until we were 3rd row in the 4th quarter… We were behind Allen Iverson’s mom and man… she was so hype… imagine the mom of the kid on the little league team that the mom goes off… Iverson had his mom talking sh*t to people and reppin for her son so hard… I really hope I can find a video of Iverson’s mom cheering him on.
Iverson rolled with an entourage of like 60 dudes because why wouldn’t you… homies gonna eat… everybody was eating in Iverson’s prime… He had somebody cruising just to keep the corn rows tight… that is sick… what did that hairdresser feel like on that private jet? Str8 balling….
Iverson could rap too…. he could really rap…
He was even dope in those powder blues for Denver… Iverson and Melo? Cmon… So dope. Points on points with zero defense in sight.

Allen Iverson crossed over into the mainstream and never came off of his brand. Never came off of who he was and is… He never backed down… He always put the homies on. He always stayed creative. He was a g throughout his life… how many can say that? So when I see that old Allen Iverson crossover, it takes me back to how it made me feel.
